Hello girls, today our little club of 3 was shrunk to 2 as Lauren was away this class. We missed you Lauren!
Anyhow a recap of what we learnt: a lot of music is composed in 4 beat rhythms or groups- so far you girls have been taught about ‘holding notes’ which have values of 1, 2, 3, or 4 beats. In the class we learnt that there is a more technical name for each one of these ‘holding notes ‘… and as you advance in your lessons, you will be introduced to:
A whole note is held down for 4 counts.
A half note is held down for 2 counts.
A quarter note for 1 count.
As I illustrated in our lesson, we can think of it in terms of a whole pie divided into 4 sections:
The WHOLE PIE has 4 pieces. We can think of it as being equal to a WHOLE NOTE which has 4 beats.
HALF of the pie has 2 pieces. We can think of it as being equal to a HALF NOTE which is worth 2 beats.
A QUARTER of the pie has 1 piece. We can think of it as being equal to a QUARTER NOTE which is worth 1 beat.
So again, so far in your computer lessons you haven’t gotten into the specific names of these ‘holding notes’ …but hopefully this explanation has made sense to you, as it is a taste of what is to come in the future!
See you next week
