Hello everyone! Really fun class this week. We reveiwed our finger numbers and filled in the names of the notes on the keyboard. Notice when we place our hands in middle c position we see that each finger number matches to a specific note/letter on the keyboard. As is shown in this picture:

In class today we reviewed the musical alphabet forwards: A B C D E F G and backwards:  G F E D C B A. We also saw a familiar pattern that helps us with naming the keys on the piano.

Notice the repetitive pattern: a pair of black eyes alternating with a group of 3 black keys…(the black keys represent different notes of which we will not be naming now).. As long as we know that C is the first white key before the pair of black keys and F is the white key that comes before the group of 3 black keys, it will be easy to figure out the names of the rest of the white keys. Just sing the alphabet! Because unlike the key board I have shown you here, the letter names will not be labeled for us, thus it is important to memorize the names on the keyboard in order to be able to play a piece of music.

Today we also practiced our recital pieces. Next week each one of you will get a chance to practice in front of the class for the first time! I gave you your song to practice at home! See you Thursday :)
